📖 Understanding Your Credit Union's Financial Statement
Wednesday October 2, 2024 4:00pm - 5:00pm CDT
As a credit union director, it is crucial to understand your credit union's financial statement because it provides a comprehensive overview of the organization's financial health. The financial statement contains important information about the credit union's assets, liabilities, income, and expenses, which can help you make informed decisions about the organization's future.

By understanding your credit union's financial statement, you can identify areas of strength and weakness, and make strategic decisions to improve the credit union's financial performance. For example, if you notice that the credit union's expenses are increasing faster than its income, you may need to adjust the budget or look for ways to increase revenue. Similarly, if you see that the credit union's loan portfolio is growing rapidly, you may need to ensure that the credit union has adequate reserves to cover potential losses.

Furthermore, understanding the financial statement can help you fulfill your fiduciary responsibilities as a credit union director. You have a duty to act in the best interests of the credit union and its members, and understanding the financial statement is essential to fulfilling this duty. By monitoring the credit union's financial performance and making informed decisions, you can help ensure the long-term success of the credit union and its ability to serve its members.

In summary, understanding your credit union's financial statement is critical to making informed decisions, identifying areas of strength and weakness, fulfilling your fiduciary responsibilities, and ensuring the long-term success of the credit union.

🗣️ 10 Must Do Initiative to Drive Your 2025 Strategy
Thursday October 3, 2024 9:00am - 9:45am CDT
This fast-paced, impactful session will highlight trends, identify challenges, and inspire a strategy to help you drive success.
  1. We must optimize the in-person experience – branch, contact center, back office. Members expect personalized relevance, a conversation with an expert, and speedy, insightful transactions.
  2. We must drive a deep digital transformation – from digital-first to digital integration to digital only. Members’ and team members’ experiences need to be enhanced. We must support “channel hopping.”
  3. We must simplify “money movement” – how much, to whom, by when. By providing safe, simple, and value-based transactions, we will have an opportunity to grow our share of wallets beyond payments.
  4. We must secure data, transactions, and infrastructure by creating an omnichannel shield utilizing MFA techniques leveraging biometrics, AI, and traditional authentication in a real-time environment.
  5. We must leverage member insight by combining data with analytics, including predictive analytics that will help us anticipate ideal “next best conversations.” To serve well, we must observe and know.
  6. We must personalize financial solutions for the members we serve. Our members’ needs vary by stage of life and financial wellness; we must understand what each member needs to serve them well.
  7. We must complement our people’s expertise with artificial intelligence. From authentication to service to decisioning – driving cognitive collaboration will enhance our ability to serve.
  8. We must develop our people into empathetic, technically savvy financial counselors who can serve our members by understanding their needs and personalizing financial solutions toward financial goals.
  9. We must strive towards a secure open technology infrastructure that will allow us to be agile and innovative in the deployment of technology as we serve our members’ and team members’ needs.
  10. We must drive continuous improvement through effective journey mapping. We need to enhance how our members can attain financial solutions across the different channels that we offer.
This fast-paced, impactful session will highlight trends, identify challenges, and inspire a strategy to help you drive success.

🗣️ “Revitalizing Your Credit Union: From Caretaking to Rebuilding”
Thursday October 3, 2024 11:00am - 12:00pm CDT
Credit unions had to make enormous changes at the onset of COVID just to stay in business. And with all those changes, most credit unions continued to fall behind in the market. Generations Y and Z, who should love our ‘co-ops’, tend to be ignoring credit unions to a great degree. Key surveys are showing that our image and brand are considered “old fashioned” and “stodgy” to those key generations. This session will show you the incontrovertible data that we as a “movement” are falling behind, but more importantly, it will show you ways to get these two key generations to pay attention to what you have to offer.

The auto industry from Covid to Today
Thursday October 3, 2024 4:00pm - 5:00pm CDT
Auto Loans - From Bread and Butter to Cornbread and Collard Greens
Auto loans have been the long standing “bread and butter” of credit union profitability and member engagement since the first credit union was formed. Great rates, exceptional member service and a member-owned “People Helping People” mission all drove members to the credit union for their auto loans.

However, the easy “bread and butter” auto loan is vanishing faster than a stick of butter melting in the hot summer sun. Today’s reality is that technology and the digital world have upset the apple cart. Members now go online, spending an average of 12-14 hours researching and getting excited looking at shiny pictures, videos, and all the new options, before ever thinking of the loan or even their credit union. And while on those sites, their data is funneled into easy online competitor financing offers with one or two mouse-click approvals.

Credit unions have got to provide the comfort food, cornbread, and collard greens, by joining the digital world in the auto vertical so that members funnel into THEIR lending funnel, not the competitors. Attendees will learn about the reality of the digital world of auto research, buying and financing and how dealers and manufacturers are moving toward end-to-end touchless digital car buying, financing and delivery. They will also be given practical ideas and action items of what they can do today to compete and win in the auto vertical while also embracing and enhancing their People Helping People mission.

Saturday October 5, 2024 10:00am - 11:00am CDT
Elections are one of the necessary evils (or glorious benefits) of a democratic system. The upcoming 2024 election includes a presidential race as well as the full House of Representatives and 1/3 of the Senate. These races can have an impact on credit unions for years to come. With more and more financial services issues coming before Congress, which candidates are more “credit union-friendly”? And with the chance to nominate new NCUA Board members over the next four years, the direction of the agency will be determined by which candidate wins the Presidential election.
